OCR... more than running

Yesterday I was at the Strong Viking . It was a great day but exhausting. And today my club “ Lustlauf - Mein Verein e.V. ” took part on the “Kitzenhauslauf”. I wouldn’t have taken part too because yesterday. But my club president ordered me to take part. I’m a very obedient underling and so it was necessary to obey! If you know me (and my president does) you know if you challenge me, I will do it all the more! I wasn’t sure about it, but I’m cheeky. And so I said it loud “If you challenge me, I will win at my age group!” I had very heavy legs. But who cares? I wanted to run! I wanted to show them all I could. And at the end I was the first of the Group M40 (Yes I became at this year 40). My president was very proud: I was standing on the top of the stairs. But he was also proud of all the other club runners. It was - like on every other day - very funny to see you all and run together!

Once again we were in Wächtersbach, Frankfurt. The Strong Viking water edition had called us extremely loud and we had to follow. But who was and is “we”? Often we are on tour in a little group. We all are friends, but most of them are not so crazy like me. They don’t have to go to all the OCRs. But Gopal is. Gopal and me, we are crazy enough. We really make a year plan, in which we professionally organize our tours. And so “we” are often only Gopal and me. But that’s not a problem for us. All people on OCRs are there for the same reason, and so we are more than only we both! This time, Gopal and me are on the way to the Strong Viking water edition. We did it the year before , this time and next time we will do it again. The water edition is called right! Very funny water obstacles and more water than in the ocean. Swimming, diving, sliding. I told a lot about ToughMudder and other OCRs the last days! Once again this year we were in middle Germany (Arnsberg) to have a very special day! But I don’t want to replay myself. Nothing really special happened. Please don’t misunderstand me: It was a very great day, but the obstacles were mostly the same like last year. Nothing really special in comparison to the others ToughMudders happened. So, let me take a look on the side of the track. What happens directly beside you? Let me do a little homage to all the volunteer helpers: Thanks for helping! Without you not one OCR could be done! You instruct people, you show them the way, you help everywhere where help is needed and not at last you do everything for our safety! Great Job! You motivate us if we are at the end of our strength. I’m fit and healthy! This year I will be able to do it! Last year I was ill and had to took me out of the race. If it’s too strong, you are too weak. We are not weak! All other, but not weak! 24km are waiting for us. This is a very popular OCR event. Much more than 10000 starters and we want to be under the best 1%. You think it’s an ambitious goal? Yes it is! At first we have to be one of the “Early Birds”. We need to be in the front line. We need to be in the first start block. That means we have to be there one hour before the start. Is that already the first obstacle? Maybe! It’s loud and it’s hard. Music, warm up and then the start. The Fischermans Strongman Run consists two 12km laps, much water or climbing obstacles and a track profile which already alone is an obstacle. Pictures should be included in the starting fee.  Meanwhile the third time in Weeze.            

  They tell about herself, they are the hardest obstacle course run of Russia. I will not let them say that twice to me: Challenge accepted! OCR booked! The season was well chosen! January in Germany is cold. Maybe not as cold as in Russia. But cold enough for us! And if we are lucky, it will snow. That would give this event a very special and appropriate atmosphere. We were lucky and it was snowing at the event. Everything was white! We were happy to take part of this event. The obstacles were - let’s say - okay. They could have been better. But you also have to remember, that water obstacles are not possible. You maybe have no water obstacles, but ice obstacles. And, if it is water, it would be too cold. Especially because of you would be completely wet after one. But this was told during the registration process, was written in the event description and so it was no reason to mock.
