ToughMudder, Hermansburg 2016
On a Friday in July 2016 we started our tour. We booked a very nice and familiar hotel for two nights. We wanted to run the parkour on Saturday.
The Friday evening was funny as I expected. We got something to eat and we laughed much. But we didn’t drink alcohol and we went not to late into our beds. We wanted to be strong for the main day. We wanted to be as good as we can be at the ToughMudder.
The next day. Saturday, the day of the event! I was a bit excited and sad at the same time because I missed some people who wanted to be there. But we had a mission! My family was in the crowd, watching at all the crazy athletes looking for us. You can’t communicate. So it’s hard to find each other. You run the trail and do the obstacles. Your family and friends searching for you but don‘t know where you are and if you are already past this obstacle. But we found us. Not at every obstacle but we did. It’s good to know there is someone who give you some extra power and motivation.
If you read my blog, you maybe have read the first ToughMudder blog. They don’t exchange the main obstacles for every location. But it’s nevertheless different. Clearly, the track and its height profile is differently. North Germany is flat. I don’t know any exact values, but it’s completely flat. So it’s easier than in middle Germany. Some special, mostly natural obstacles are individual for every location.
You remember “Heidi’s Weg” in middle Germany’s ToughMudder? It’s “only” a massive hill and it's completely natural. Small lakes, rivers, bridges, hills, stairs….that’s all things which are used to test us. That’s not only done at the ToughMudder. It’s done at every OCR
Such events are often interesting for (local) press or TV. So we weren’t surprised as we were interviewed by the NDR (Nord-Deutscher-Rundfunk) and saw us later in their news. This is also an extra thrill. This sport got the attention of many, many people and isn’t longer a thing only for a view crazy people
After the ToughMudder and after a long shower (you just can not get the dirt down or it needs at least more than one shower) we had again a nice and funny evening with my family and some (new) friends. It is very nice that you will quickly meet new people on such a sports event!
