Strong Viking, Frankfurt 2016
OCR saves lives! Sounds to enthusiastic? No…
Did you read (or maybe better saw) the “Xletix NRW 2016”
- blog? I motivated some colleagues for it. And one of them stopped
smoking to become a better sportsman. Probably he will never be an
athletic but is this necessary? No, it isn’t (my opinion). The only
thing, you should to be, is fit. No matter how fast you run, no matter
how strong you are. You should be fit and feel good.
My
colleagues trained before and after the Xletix, and so they wanted to
go to a further OCR - Good done! It was called “Strong Viking”. These
OCR series has some different editions (e.g. mud, water, steel, hills,
brother, family) which all have another focus. We selected the brother
edition. This edition has its focus on teamwork. Obstacles which you
can’t do alone are in the focus. The best choice to build a team or to
strength one.
The
weather was perfect, our mood could not have been better. Even if our
team wasn’t on one fitness level, we did it together. We started
together and we finished together. I was proud of all of them.
One
really special obstacle is the “Fjord Drop” - a water slide. But not
only a water slide like all others: A shocker that made my pulse beat
faster. With “Fjord Drop” Strong Viking’s organization team has built a
true overcomer for those who do not like height. From a distance it
looked quite small, but the closer we got to the colossus, the bigger it
seemed to be. We felt a bit like David, who was fighting with Goliath.
But it did not help. I had to go through this now - we had to go.
Thankfully,
there were only a few runners in front of us, so there was no time to
overthink it. Quickly we went up the stairs - many stairs. Once arrived
at the top, the instructors told us some safety instructions. We quickly
sit down at the edge of the slide. At the first sight there was only a
vertical, black wall at the end of which a curve led to nothingness.
Should I go down there? Sure! Only a little self-push and I was
unstoppable. A slide. A scream. A flight. A splash. My heart was at 180.
Pure adrenalin. Madness. The steepest slide I’ve ever made. You need to
try it!
After all the pain, after all the effort, after all the self-torture, it was a very good teamwork, and we all were proud to finish.
The pain goes, but the pride stays a whole life.
BTW: “He” has never start smoking again until today!- Good job, boy!
