43k - Or how we died
Normally I take the name of the event as the headline. But this time it was two events and three runs:
13K Tougher Mudder in Arnsberg
13K Tough Mudder in Arnsberg
17k Break out Run in Nijmegen
But let’s start at the beginning:
4:00 in the morning: the clock rings and I had to wake up. Absolutely not my time but it was not only a day. It was the day! We had planned something special. We wanted to run a triple and complete the distance of a marathon.
7:00
Gopal and I arrived in Arnsberg, the NRW Tough Mudder area. Here we
wanted to do two of three runs. Both are nearly the same. There is only
one different: The Tougher Mudder is a time race. Otherwise, the Tough
Mudder isn’t a race and the time is not taken. But the track and
obstacles are the same. And for both one rule counts: One helps one
another!
We started with the Tougher Mudder at 8 o’clock.
It took around 100 minutes, and we passed the finish line after 13 km. Me first, then Gopal. But who cares! We both reached places very far ahead.
At the finish I met a friend, I met the “Quäse”-Men. He works at the Tough Mudder since I run there, and he promoted for “Quäse” as I learned to know him. So we know each other for a long time. He accompanied me over the finish line and congratulated me!
We both, Gopal and me, were happy. It was a good first part! We ate something and - who bet? - we got back to the start line for the Tough Mudder which we started at 11 o'clock.
It
took again around 100 minutes to cross the finish line a second time.
As expected the track was full, and we had to wait at nearly each
obstacle. That’s the reason why we skipped some unexciting obstacles.
Now we had some rest time and met some friends at the mudder village. We talked, laughed and had fun. But we know we had to drive 2 hours to the next event.
Okay, let’s drive to Nijmegen, let’s go to the night version of the break out run. This race was new. We didn’t run it before. We were exited, and we were really impressed as we saw the event village! One more time we saw the talent of the Netherlands. It was fantastic: The obstacles were massive and impressive, they used the lake excellent for many water obstacles. A really, really great event which will sure see us again next year!
The night run started at 9:30 pm and it got dark really quick after the start. I liked it! It was an extra challenge to survive! For the 17 km of this part we need around 3 hours: we were tired after the first 26 km of the day and it was really dark, so we had to be carefully. But - and we are very, very proud - we did it: We did the break out run and complete the marathon distance.
OMG! We are so proud! We are happy and euphoric. It was a complete stupid idea and that’s the reason why we loved it! It was the craziest thing we have done so far. But be sure: We will do it again, and we will find something to top it!
